The answer depends upon what the old motor requires to re-manufacture as well as the cost and length of time to get a new motor.
Generally, a standard NEMA (National Electrical Manufactures Association) frame motor is generally more cost-effective to buy new under 25 hp. This is true even for simple bearing replacement. These motors are readily available and several brand options exist.
The equation changes when the motor is uniquely designed for a special application. We often see these in original equipment that was designed and manufactured in Europe and in Asia. The motors for these applications are not readily available and may take up to six months to obtain. The cost of manufacturing downtime waiting for these offshore motors to be delivered could be much more than paying to have the motor remanufactured locally. In this case, we often see unique shaft/mounting configuration very small fractional horsepower motors often remanufactured due to the long lead time to obtain a new motor.

Denver Electric Motor doesn’t just replace bearings. Denver Electric Motor’s technicians disassemble a motor, inspect all parts, check machine fit, including Bearing journals and end bells for Bearing fitment, electrically test the stator, steam clean and bake both the motor’s stator’s windings and rotor, then replace the bearings, assemble, test and paint. Denver Electric Motor‘s policy is to do this as we are the last company to touch the motor. If something were to happen to the motor after releasing it to the client, we have significant data to review our findings with the client. Our goal is to ensure both reliability and durability due to client Operation downtime can be very expensive. To do all of the above we are looking at a cost around $1500, depending on Bearing type, and a turnaround time of 2 to 3 business days without authorized overtime.
